My first character in GW was called "Goddess Ate". She was an elementalist and I deleted her after a while for a free PvP-slot. Her name has been taken by someone else, I found out when I tried to make a PvP-char with my old name again.
Here is a screenshot of her while she was Etin-farming 1,5 years ago
PvE characters:
Ate of DK Ranger
Named after the ancient greek Goddess Ate. The DK part is a remain of my first Guild. The full name would be: Ate of the Dragon Knights
Healing Ate Monk
Named after the ancient greek Goddess Ate. She's a monk this time so I thought Healing Ate would fit
Daphne Lauraceae Necromancer
Called after Daphne from Greek Mythology who got turned in a Laurier-tree (a lauraceae)
PvP-characters:
Ate Ist & Daphne Ist [irre]
Both my standard PvE characters names but named according Guild-Rules.
As member of "Die Psychiatrie" we all have our name fitting to the tag [irre]. With is German for: Ate/Daphne is Crazy. Hence our Guild: The Psychiatry

I prefer that all my igns can be easily shortcuted like this:
Storm Clash - Storm, Amber Tear - Amber etc.
Also I trying to make it sounds good and easy to remember.
Only one hardpoint I made is my first char - Valor Morgulis ( its assassin, I take a name based on phrase from my favorite book serie - George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire - Faseless Men order pronounce it like "Valar morghulis" and I adopt it a bit =) )

I've always used puns for my names. Sometime they are based on band names sometimes just basic juvenile humour. I actually have a list some 100 names long for when I roll up new chars. Here are some examples:
Necro: Jehovahs Waitress (I still get IMs from people telling me to repent!)
Ele: Cream of the Crotch (Used for pure gross-out value. If I can make even one person say "yuck" when I walk by, I've done my job)
War: Cervix with a Smile (pure punnery there)
Monk: The Gaza Stripper (punny and political, but this name gets me some unwanted IMs from people who are even more juvenile than myself)
and a short list of names for characters I no longer have (note these are open to use, feel free):
Go Nad Go
Dyslexic Fcuker
Hold the Bone
Goon Squad Reject
Miracle Wimp
Mourning Would
Nat King Colon
Lee Harvey Keitel
Sinus Envy
REO Speed Dealer
Public Enema
I am Expendable
The Mall of Cthulhu
and my favourite/nastiest
Herpes Cineplex
Pabst Smear
-Enjoy

Not the most original method for coming up with names, but it works for me and has the advantage of there being almost zero chance of any name I might come up with having already been taken.
|
Same method here.
Jet = I'm a die-hard New York Jets fan.
[ ] = Generally something to do with the character's profession.
doc = My real life nickname.
Jet Wardoc, Jet Deathdoc, Jet Spiritdoc, Jet Nightdoc - they all roll off the tounge for me, and there's no mistaking what each of them do.

All my characters' names end with my own nickname, Peffy.
The first part of the name is usually a descriptive word.. for example, my ele is Arsonist Peffy
Monk = Priestess
Ranger = Arbalest
Warrior = Sgt Major
Ele = Arsonist
Necro = Maestro (conducting a symphony of minions =p)
Assassin = Orochiko (Japanese for "Little Hydra" or, by a stretch, "Stupid Little Kid")
The three characters I created with my three nightfall slots took a different approach - they used the names of relevant obscure war goddesses. (Thanks Wikipedia!!)
Mesmer = Nemhain (Irish goddess of panic)
Dervish = Iansa (Portuguese name for Oya, the Yoruba (African/West Indies) goddess of wind/tornado/hurricane - I used the Portuguese version because I had just recently discovered that I have a Portuguese ancestor)
Paragon = Nerio (Roman goddess of valor)

For the most part, my characters have these naming conventions:
Prophecies: Wacko turn of the century evangelists
Factions: Female Japanese adult film stars.
Nightfall: Egyptian names (I got lazy).

Well my primary character, my warrior. I just began one but the name sorta confused me since it had to have more then one word and so many digits. Shmanka is my actual last name so I put that in, error. OK more then one word? .. Shmanka The... This problem led me with 5 spaces left and since then has become my new nickname ingame and out. I looked at www.dictionary.com and placed my old Wc3 League acc name, then "Swift" popped up... to this day im refered as Swift, this was 11 months ago as well, so all those new "Swift's" are complete wanna bee's
Shmanka The Swift- Warrior~ My primary character
Swift The Legend- Ele~ named in the same fashion as my brother
Swift Imposition- Mesmer
Swift Footstep- Assasin
Shmanka The Pure- Monk~ didn't rename him since I made him as a mule 3 days after my warrior.
Alexa Spiritwalker- Ranger~I met a good friend through this game and named this ranger after her, a cute story how 8 pugs from around the world got into top 100 after a few weeks gvg'ing together for the first time.
Sarah Nightsiren- Necromancer~ "" ""
Swift Dervish- Dervish
Swift Paragon- Paragon
Lady Lionguard- Warrior~ My presearing dedicated character to help individual players in pre-searing if they are new to the game and concepts where I can introduce them to elements about the game.
Swift Alakazam- Ritualist ~ He is magic
PvP Swift- a pvp name I rotate around to fit classes

I just had to reply- My warrior was made for the last beta weekend, and I was so anxious to get started that I couldn't think of a "good" name- So Sophie Swift was named after our cat.
Pearlie B. was named after my great grandmother and then I have my fun names- Kopah Kabanah, and Kopah Setick, my Canthan Rit and ranger duo.
My NF monk, Jahnee Makadoo, is from an Irish song- Johnny McAdoo, and he's a smiter!

ele - Xue Min (mandarin pingyin of my name)
ranger - Miyuji Hime (after the japanese singer Myuji >.> Mi meaning beautiful, yu brave, ji soldier, hime the honorific for princess)
monk - Yukitoshi Ryuu (japanese pronounciation of the chinese characters of my name with surname last)
necro - Eika Sakuramori (was going to be Eiko, but Eika sounded better with the surname which I incorrectly recalled from a CLAMP manga)
rit - Lia Sakurazuka (named after I'VE member Lia, surname was a modified version of previous)
assassin - Enma Sakurazukamori (actually messed up and used 2 surnames here i think XD first one from Jigoku Shoujo, second from a CLAMP series)
mesmer - Smurf Go Splat (a guild joke >.> )
derv - Saya Morinozuka (named after heroine of BLOOD+, surname from Ouran High Host Club)
para - Mi Yu Ji (same as ranger, felt it was better for a para/war, but i had plans for a name for my future warrior)
my mules are all Liu Xue Min (chinese name, surname first) with I's and L's after to denote number >.>
my names annoy the guildies greatly with my lack of a naming pattern XD

Well, all my characters have names ending Taurucis (clan name) and it's a pretty long story how I managed to cook that name up. Though many people who have tried to spell it haven't been able to spell it right. And now for my chars...
My warrior Kai: Wanted a name at least slightly similar to my real name. And "kai" means anger in Chinese.
My elementalist Gryphon: A Gryphon is a creature which is half lion and half eagle. I chose it because my brother asked me to.
My necromancer Cairn: I needed a good, dark, necromancerey name but couldn't make one up. After a while of thinking and killing random Mursaat bosses, I decided to name my necro after a Warrior boss I found named Cairn the Destroyer. The name sort of stuck, but most people call him Caim.
My ranger Ard Ri: The reason is quite silly. I was reading a book about Celts, and in the glossary it had a few Celtic words and their meanings. Ard Ri (with the correct tonations of course...) means "high king" but I'm not 100% sure.
My dervish Dragonstar: Made his name based on the naming of cats in the Warriors series (Dragonkit -> Dragonpaw -> Dragonflame -> Dragonstar) and there is also a character named Dragonstar in the series The Wayfarer Redemption.
My paragon Fallenstar: Made her name based on the Warriors series too. (Fallenkit -> Fallenpaw -> Fallentears -> Fallenstar)
My assassin Akarai: Somehow I managed to pick up a little bit of Japanese by reading Naruto manga. Her name is supposed to mean "Red Lightning" (aka = red, rai = lightning)
So mostly, I modify names out of books that I enjoy reading, or patch them together with non-English words.

Ranger: Beast Master Archer - Decided that name after reading GW guides and watching videos a long time ago.
Monk: Healing Quiver, was supposed to be a monk/ranger.
Warrior: Carbon Monoxide - kills you when you least expect it.
Dervish: Miss Kosynierzy - polish Scythe wielding peasants.
Paragon: Enchanted Love - just a random kinky name.

Ranger- Silhouette Eyes (I have used silhouette for a lot of different things, and for some reason love the word)
Necro - Megan Deathlove (Megan is my first name, deathlove because shes a necro)
Warrior - Poisoned Faith (Not entirely sure...thought it sounded cool at the time)
Monk - Elysian Seraph (means 'heavenly angel')
Assassin - Malefic Mistress (means 'deadly mistress')
Dervish - Dire Temptress (again, thought it was cool.)
Paragon - Exotic Seductress (I thought my paragon looked exotic, white armor, tanned skin, just worked.)
Basically, I do one of two things. I make the character and then decide on a name by looking at them for a while, or I try to find cool sounding words that have good meanings to relate to the character (like my monk and assassin)

I came up with my character name since I first started playing Counter Strike when it was still a mod for HL. It use to be widowmaker, then got shortened down by some friends in Medal of Honor to widow, then "da balla" part was added on later meaning "the baller". Yes I have little to no creativity or imagination so I've used the same name on every game i've played since lol

My ingame name is the one I use for all RPGs (that support knight/warrior type characters). The "Gemini Knight" portion has a very special meaning to me (I could go on for pages about it). The last part, Juno, comes from my favorite game of all time, Jet Force Gemini.

A rose by any other name...
Each char's names were inspired by various things around me:
Monk: Charles Burkowski ~ I was reading a book called Confessions of a Man Insane Enough to Live with Beasts by Charles Bukowski and it just so happened to be on my desk as I was creating this char. But I misspelled it when I registered the name.
Necro: Lady Gallo of Devi ~ I came up with that name years ago when I wrote a short story set in Medieval England.
Ele: Axexia Bloodlin ~ My fiancee and I have always used the last name Bloodlin (from Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines ) when playing MMORPG games. Axexia is a name of a soft drink I once found in a japanese supermarket.
Mesmer: Walking Xunlai ~ I literally need a walking storage char that happens to be a Mesmermentalist (Me/E). It took my guildies a bit to realize the name and they just laughed there asses off.
Rit: Lady Ming Severus ~ Well, the char was from Canthan origin so she had to have some sort of Asian inspired name. And that was also around the time that I was reading the sixth Harry Potter book so it somehow came together.
War: Sai Huang Dai ~ Its suppose to translate into The Emperor of Death in old mandarine but I think I made a mistake somewhere.
Ranger: Alan Quartermain ~Modifed name of the fictional character from the book King Solomon's Mines (which was sitting on my shelf to the left of my computer when I was creating my ranger).
Derv: Amanita Virosca ~ Modified name of a poisonous mushroom called Amanita Virosa aka Distroying Angel.

Well, I got the name EPIC from a friend after I had made my first character (Arbiter of Woe, a necromancer). Since then, everyname includes E P I C in it. For instance when I pvp, its "E P I C Pvp"
Unfortunately, someone ended up taking the name E P I C while I didn't have it one time, so all my PvE names require another word before or after E P I C.
